HKTV life - The End

It has been a while that I left from my post - HKTV Senior Programmer.
I joined the team in 2014, and with 9 members, Anthony, Toby, Terence, Ning, Terry, Vincent, Rex, Keith, Jacky. Where I met the best ever colleagues each with incredible talent.

So what happened? Why leaving the best position you could have. Let's start from a bit of history first.



2014 Nov 19  HKTV OTT born. Our team fight though it 48 hours, camping at Office.
- reach more than 1 million views in a week
Lesson learn : database failing, bandwidth congestion, m3u8 encoding, VAST, ABR,  TCP RST, Bash... more & more

2015 Jan HKTVmall e-commerce born. Wasn't good enough, people have issue on shopping via the app & web.
Lesson learn: Hybris failing, UX failing, Image memory consumption, Indian culture (vendor management)

2015 April HKTVmall phase 2 revamp out. Better UI design on different categories items.


Lesson learn: Browser rendering, Chrome Timeline, leader

 

2015 Nov HKTVmall phrase 3 revamp. Enhance rendering and performance in Web. New features expanded with new UI.
Lesson learn: Facebook Analytics & Google Remarketing, local storage.

2016 April Sentry rollout, to get error alert from production environment.
Lesson learn: docker, sentry

2016 May New HKTV Logistic System Geocoding server
 - A new system for geocoding data running on Nodejs (docker env too)
Lesson learn: pm2, stream processing

2016 August HKTVmall Mobile Web Revamp
 - get rid of jQuery UI (too much junk while page rendering)
 - Better UI & UX experience, especially on Deep link when HKTV mobile app installed.
Lesson learn: Universal Link and Chrome intent

2016 Sept HKTV 4 Million Lottery Draw Application
Lesson learn: Azure Cloud Environment, Scalability, Queue & Service Bus, Resilient

Thats it.  This Incredible Team at the end expanded to 15 developers and 5 of us work on the Web.  It was a great adventure, it is more like a family to me after all these years of communication between us. Somehow we will continues this adventure again together.

What would I expecting in the next coming years?  A huge lot more features such as:

• Web Push, you can't get away from digital marketing.
• HKTV social plugin, why not making something like Amazon, eBay or Facebook to allow other parties embed the products for larger sales.
• High performance Logistic & warehouse system.
• Machine Learning Model for shopping behaviour. 
• Voice search / advance searching experience

But still. Why ? I see myself as a developer like to work on problems that people cannot solve. It work out for me if I travel alone in a new environment and meeting with new friends. Yes, and I enjoy challenges and complete them as a Team Effort!

Therefore I would be happy if I can get a job in London which full of passionate and exciting people!!!
